.Since 1999 forty-seven newborns have been left in locations ranging from dumpsters and bathrooms to palmetto bushes. Twenty-seven of these infants died before anyone could help them. In those same eleven years 185 newborns have been saved from that tragic end by way of the state of Florida’s Safe Haven Law.

With no questions asked, this law allows mothers or anyone who is in possession of an unharmed infant to simply leave them in the care of a Safe Haven facility; any hospital, fire station or emergency medical service station. As of 2013, all U.S. states and the District of Columbia have adopted similar laws.
Jude is one of the 185 babies who have been spared from this unfavorable fait. One year ago he was left at a central Florida hospital and within a month Rebecca and Drew brought him home as their own. Jude became an instant miracle in their life.
I have known Rebecca since college when we spent our summers surfing, riding bikes and climbing on roof tops to watch the Florida sunsets. All the smiles that those golden years provided have never been as beautiful as the ones that you can see in this video.
Happy Birthday Jude!
